Planning a Walt Disney World vacation in 2025? Look no further. As a former Disney Cast Member who worked at the iconic World of Disney store in Disney Springs, I’ve seen the magic from the inside—and now I’m sharing all the tips, tricks, and secrets to help you plan the most magical (and budget-friendly) trip ever.
Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned Disney adult, this blog post is packed with insider info—from the best resorts and snacks to Genie+, ride tips, holiday parties, where to stay (even off-property), how to save money, and what’s new in 2025. Let’s dive into the ultimate Disney planning guide!
1. Where to Stay: On-Property vs. Off-Property
Staying on Disney Property Benefits:
- Early theme park entry
- Free transportation (buses, monorail, Skyliner)
- Extra immersive theming and service
- Advance dining reservation windows
Value Resorts (great for budget-conscious travelers):
- Pop Century – Skyliner access
- Art of Animation – family suites & Skyliner
- All-Star Resorts – Movies, Music, Sports
Moderate Resorts:
- Port Orleans French Quarter – quieter, charming atmosphere My favorite moderate!
- Caribbean Beach Resort – Skyliner hub
- Coronado Springs – great pool & dining
Deluxe Resorts:
- Polynesian Village – Monorail access, tropical vibes, GREAT food
- Animal Kingdom Lodge – view real animals from your balcony! The only deluxe I think is 100% worth the money, lol
- Boardwalk Inn – easy access to boardwalk, can walk to EPCOT
Off-Property Tips: If staying off-site, look for hotels near Disney Springs or in the Bonnet Creek area. Many offer free shuttles and great deals. You may sacrifice perks, but you’ll save money. If you’re renting a car, I’d 100% recommend staying off property because you’ll save quite a bit of money. One of the perks of staying on property are the included bus transportation to the parks, but if you’re planning on driving, I personally don’t think it’s worth it.
2. What’s New at Disney in 2025
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (Magic Kingdom): A reimagined Splash Mountain with a musical journey through the bayou.
- Country Bear Jamboree Update: New musical numbers and revamped characters.
- Star Tours Refresh (Hollywood Studios): New scenes from recent Star Wars content.
- EPCOT Transformation Continues: World Celebration is now open with new gardens, seating, and light shows.
MagicBands and MagicBand+
MagicBands are wearable devices that enhance your Walt Disney World experience by providing convenient access to various services. They come in two versions: the standard MagicBand and the more interactive MagicBand+. Disney used to include them and would even mail the bands to your house by staying on property, miss those days 😦
Both MagicBand and MagicBand+ allow you to:
- Enter theme and water parks with valid admission
- Check in at Lightning Lane entrances
- Link Disney PhotoPass images to your account
- Unlock your Disney Resort hotel room door (for on-site guests)
MagicBand+ offers additional features, such as interactive experiences within the parks and synchronized lighting effects during select nighttime spectaculars.
For On-Site Guests
As of January 1, 2021, Disney Resort hotel guests no longer receive complimentary MagicBands. However, they have the option to purchase new MagicBands at a discounted price before arrival. Guests who prefer not to purchase a MagicBand can use the My Disney Experience app or a Key to the World card during their visit.
For Off-Site Guests
Guests staying off Disney property can still purchase MagicBands at regular prices through various retail locations or online. Once purchased, these bands can be linked to your My Disney Experience account, allowing you to use them for park entry, Lightning Lane check-ins, and linking PhotoPass images. However, off-site guests cannot use MagicBands for charging purchases, as this feature is exclusive to on-site guests.
Disney’s Key to the World Card
For guests who choose not to use a MagicBand, Disney provides the Key to the World card. This card functions similarly by granting park entry, Lightning Lane access, and room entry for on-site guests. Off-site guests can use the card for park entry and Lightning Lane access.
Both MagicBands and the Key to the World card serve as convenient tools to streamline your Disney experience, whether you’re staying on-site or off-site.
You can also use the MyDisneyExperience app to access your passes.
3. Essentials to Pack (That You May Not Think Of)
- Portable charger or FuelRod – you can also buy these in the park if you forget, there are different stands. One I know of is in Cosmic Ray’s in MK
- Cooling towel/fan – they have these for purchase in many merch locations, but they’re very overpriced
- Refillable water bottle (free ice water at quick service)
- Poncho or mini umbrella
- Ziploc bags for snacks or wet items
- Band-Aids and blister cushions – they have these at guest services if needed
- Comfortable walking shoes (this is not the time to break in new ones!)
4. MyDisneyExperience App
This app is your digital command center. If you know a Disney trip is in your crystal ball, I’d download this ASAP to aid in your planning. Use it to:
- View wait times and park maps
- Book Genie+ and Lightning Lanes
- Order food in advance
- Join virtual queues
- Access PhotoPass pictures
- Check your itinerary and dining reservations
Pro Tip: Link your tickets and payment before your trip.
Users can also see where they parked their car in the lot (believe it or not, it’s very easy to get lost and lose track of where your car is, especially at night walking back).
Some rides have interactive elements with the app (The last time I checked, Soarin’ did) It can double as your room key, has all maps on property, and is the best invention Disney World has made in the past 10 years, imo.
5. Genie+ and Lightning Lane Explained
Genie+ (Paid, price varies):
- Book your first Lightning Lane at 7:00 AM
- After using your first, or after 2 hours, book another
Individual Lightning Lanes:
- Paid separately for rides like Rise of the Resistance or Guardians of the Galaxy
Strategies:
- Rope drop early rides, stack Lightning Lanes for the afternoon
- Prioritize popular rides first (like Slinky Dog or Peter Pan)
6. Best Rides in Each Park
Magic Kingdom:
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- Haunted Mansion (fun fact: there’s a pet cemetery out back!)
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Jungle Cruise
- Space Mountain
EPCOT:
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (spins and music = EPIC)
- Soarin’ Around the World
- Test Track
- Frozen Ever After
- Ratatouille Adventure
Hollywood Studios:
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- Tower of Terror (randomized drops!) I hate heights and love this ride though, it’s not nearly as bad as it looks lol
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Animal Kingdom:
- Flight of Passage – jaw-dropping visuals!
- Kilimanjaro Safaris – you get to see all types of animals on the safari! Very cool ride to go on in the rain
- Expedition Everest

7. Best Restaurants and Snacks
Table Service Favorites:
- Be Our Guest – Magic Kingdom, overpriced but 100% worth it for the experience!
- Space 220 – EPCOT (Reservations go out quickly, make sure to book early)
- Sci-Fi Dine-In – Hollywood Studios
- Yak & Yeti – Animal Kingdom (Tusker House is another favorite of mine, it’s the only buffet in WDW I find to be worth it)
- Storybook Dining – Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort
- Ohana – Disney’s Polynesian Resort (This is my FAVORITE restaurant in all of WDW!) Both breakfast + lunch are delish, plus you get to see Lilo and Stitch! If you time your reservation right for dinner, guests may be able to see the fireworks from MK!
Quick Service Gems:
- Casey’s Corner – Magic Kingdom
- Crêpes À Emporter – EPCOT
- Woody’s Lunch Box – Hollywood Studios
- Satu’li Canteen – Animal Kingdom (My favorite QSR! I’m biased because Avatar is my favorite movie, but the food here is genuinely incredible and unique)
Must-Try Snacks:
- Dole Whip (Magic Kingdom)
- School Bread (EPCOT – Norway)
- Totchos (Hollywood Studios)
- Night Blossom (Pandora)
- Cinnamon Roll (Animal Kingdom Starbucks)
Dining Plans (Returning in 2025):
- Quick-Service Plan: 2 quick-service meals, 1 snack/day
- Standard Plan: 1 quick-service, 1 table-service, 1 snack/day
Allergy/Diet Restrictions:
Disney is genuinely fantastic with accommodating specific dietary restrictions. Each restaurant has a vegan/gluten free menu and most of the alternative options are delicious.
8. Disney Springs: An Underrated Treasure
I’ll admit, before I worked at the World of Disney store, I didn’t realize just how amazing Disney Springs is. It’s not just shopping, it’s an entire dining, entertainment, and experience hub!
Top Restaurants:
- The Boathouse (seafood & waterfront views)
- Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ (southern comfort food!)
- Morimoto Asia (delicious sushi & Asian fusion)
Snacks & Quick Bites:
- Gideon’s Bakehouse – massive cookies—get there early!
- Amorette’s Patisserie – mini cakes that are almost too cute to eat
- Daily Poutine
- Sprinkles Cupcakes – there’s a cupcake ATM!
Other Fun Things:
- Live music & entertainment
- The Aerophile balloon ride
- DisneyStyle & Marketplace Co-Op for unique merch
9. PhotoPass & Best Photo Spots
PhotoPass photographers are stationed all over Disney. Buy Memory Maker for unlimited digital downloads or just ask them to use your phone!
Best Photo Spots:
- Magic Kingdom: Purple Wall, Castle Hub, Tangled Lanterns
- EPCOT: Spaceship Earth, Japan Pavilion, Festival topiaries
- Hollywood Studios: In front of Tower of Terror, Galaxy’s Edge
- Animal Kingdom: Tree of Life, floating mountains in Pandora
10. Must-See Shows and Entertainment in Each Park
Walt Disney World isn’t just about rides, its shows are just as iconic! Be sure to arrive at least an hour early to get a great viewing spot, especially for nighttime spectaculars. Check your My Disney Experience app daily to look out for character meet + greets as well:)
Magic Kingdom: Happily Ever After is the can’t-miss fireworks and projection show on Cinderella Castle—emotional and unforgettable. Also check out Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire on the castle stage and Festival of Fantasy Parade in the afternoon.
EPCOT: Luminous: The Symphony of Us (new in 2024!) lights up World Showcase Lagoon with music, fireworks, and fountains. Plus, check out live performances at the American Gardens Theatre, especially during seasonal festivals.
Hollywood Studios: Fantasmic! combines fireworks, water projections, live actors, and classic Disney moments. It’s truly epic. Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage and Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular are also crowd-pleasers.
Animal Kingdom: Don’t miss Festival of the Lion King, a Broadway-style show filled with music, acrobatics, and stunning visuals. Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond is another family favorite.
11. Holiday Events & EPCOT Festivals
Special Ticketed Parties:
- Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (Aug–Oct)
- Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (Nov–Dec)
