Ultimate Guide to the Best Things to Do in Orlando: Local Tips from a Former Disney Cast Member ✨

As a former Walt Disney World cast member, I got the unique chance to explore Orlando beyond the theme parks. There’s so much more than meets the eye. Whether you’re here for the magic, the food, or the adventure, this guide blends my favorite spots with hidden gems to help you make the most of your trip to Central Florida. So let’s dive in!

🎢 Top Attractions in Orlando

Walt Disney World Resort

It goes without saying, but WDW is a must. With four theme parks, water parks, shopping, and dining, it’s its own world. Be sure to download the My Disney Experience app to manage reservations, check wait times, and navigate the parks with ease.

Here is my WDW Travel Guide!

Universal Orlando Resort

Now featuring the new Epic Universe opening in 2025, Universal is thrilling for Harry Potter fans and roller coaster lovers alike. Don’t miss the Hogwarts Express or the Jurassic World VelociCoaster. And if you’re not doing the parks, Universal CityWalk offers shopping, food, and fun.

Discovery Cove

Want to swim with dolphins, snorkel through a reef, or float in a lazy river all in one day? Discovery Cove is a relaxing, all-inclusive escape in the heart of Orlando. Including alcohol 😉 Guests can get their tan on, swim with stingrays, and enjoy tasty refreshments all day long!

Gatorland

An underrated gem! My roommate Shelbi and I visited and got to pet capybaras, which was incredible. Gatorland also has gator wrestling shows, ziplining, and old-school Florida charm.

🍽️ Best Places to Eat in Orlando

Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ (Disney Springs)

Southern comfort food at its finest. Fried chicken, cheddar biscuits, and moonshine cocktails? Yes, please.

Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew – Disney Springs

Massive donuts with creative toppings, perfect for Instagram and your sweet tooth.

Twenty PHO Hour – Orlando

This pho joint is a total hidden gem and so worth the hype. Flavorful broth, huge portions, and fast service. It’s my go-to when I need something comforting. Shelbi & I went here after Gatorland and were obsessed with the Pho!

SunsetWalk Dining

SunsetWalk is more than a park entrance, it’s a vibe. There’s an area near Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville that has live music, shaved ice stands, and chill nighttime energy. Great for a non-park day out.

🌃 Nightlife in Orlando

  • Cowboys Orlando – One of my favorite nights out! I used to go here all the time while living here. Country line dancing, live music, and a mechanical bull if you’re feeling brave.
  • Universal CityWalk – Live DJs, bars, karaoke, and dancing. You don’t need a park ticket to enjoy the energy.
  • Disney Springs – Sip cocktails at The Edison or enjoy the rooftop view at Wine Bar George.

🛍️ Hidden Gems & Local Tips

  • Lake Eola Park – A peaceful downtown escape with swan boats and weekend markets.
  • Leu Gardens – A botanical paradise perfect for slow strolls or cute photo ops.
  • Winter Park – Just north of Orlando, this charming area has cobblestone streets, cafes, and beautiful lakes.

Final Thoughts

Orlando has so much to offer beyond just rides and theme parks. Whether you’re indulging in local eats, dancing the night away, or having upclose animal encounters, there’s something for every kind of traveler.
